Vespers Rachmaninov

Recently, Marcel N. Verhoeff, chief conductor of the Don Cossack Choir of Russia, made a recording of Sergei Rachmaninov's Vespers with the Russian Academic Boys- and Male Choir from Moscow. These recordings were well received by international critics, especially because Verhoeff worked together with a Boy's and Male' choir. This was also the way the work was performed during its premiere in 1915 by the Moscow Synodal Choir. At that time the work was so succesfull that it was performed another five times in one month. It is often said that no other composition marks the end of an era so clearly as this liturgical work. Verhoeffs recording was produced under the auspices of Strengholt Netherlands and published by the Austrian label VSM Records (Feldkirch, AU).
